What DimGiu keeps
- What you put on the map — names (English and Chinese), whether someone is living, birth and death years — and a full birthday only if someone adds one (yours, or a relative’s own via a details link) — a city, the parent and partner links between people, your answers to “older or younger?”, any cropped profile photos, and the family-specific titles you record. Photos are stored inside your family’s own record, not in a separate library.
- Your account — if you sign in: your email address, and the name your sign-in provider passes along. That is what identifies your account. We don’t ask for anything else.
- Anonymous usage statistics — Google Analytics tells us which parts of the app get used (pages, features, rough device type). It never receives your family data or names.
Where it lives
- Before you sign in, the family you build stays in your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to us. Export a copy any time (Family menu → Export).
- Once you save it to your account, it is stored with Google Firebase (Firestore), in Google Cloud data centres in the United States, under your account.
Who can see it
Today: only the account that saved it — you. Inviting relatives to see and help edit a family is planned; when it ships, only the people you invite will be able to see that family, and this page will say so.
Share links are different by design. When you share a family by link, we store an encrypted snapshot; the key lives only inside the link itself, so we cannot read the snapshot, and neither can anyone without the link. Anyone with the link can view that snapshot. Snapshots can’t currently be recalled — treat a share link like a photo you’ve sent.
Details links ask one relative to check their own name and birthday, with no account needed. A relative who gets a details link sees only what you have for them — their name, in English and Chinese, and their birth year — and who asked. What they enter goes only to you, and nothing changes on your map until you apply it. The link stops working after one answer or 30 days.
Signing in
You can sign in with an email link (no password) or with Google. From Google we receive your name and email address, plus an identifier Google issues for this app. We never post on your behalf, and we never read your contacts, your inbox or anything beyond that sign-in.
What we never do
- Show ads, or sell or rent any data to anyone.
- Let search engines index families.
- Analyse relationships across families, or guess connections between people from data.
- Collect contact details for the people on a map — a map holds names and how people are related, not phone numbers or addresses.
Cookies and browser storage
Your browser keeps a sign-in session and, until you sign in, the family itself. Google Analytics sets its usual cookies for the anonymous statistics above. There is no advertising or tracking beyond that.
Deleting your data
Email hello@dimgiu.com from the address you sign in with, and we delete your account and every family it owns within 30 days. Export first if you want to keep a copy. Full instructions: delete your DimGiu data.
If you find yourself on someone else’s map and would rather not be, the same address works: we will pass your request to the family’s owner, and can hide your details ourselves if needed.
Who runs this
DimGiu is a small independent project by Reagan Sun, in beta. Questions about anything on this page: hello@dimgiu.com.
